iPromise was developed by a subcommittee of the USASF National Advisory Board. iPromise is co-supported by the Parent's Action Committee, NCSSE and AACCA who award a 'Leadership through Sportsmanship Award' annually at the VIP Reception and Ceremony. The pledge can be taken by all participants of cheerleading and dance. Taking the pledge shows that individual supports a better cheerleading and dance community through mutual respect and appreciation. The iPromise initiative is proud to support "iCheerSafe" a pledge of commitment to cheerleading risk management from coaches and athletes alike. For more information about iCheerSafe click here. |

March 1st is the Day to show your pride in your PROMISE! Get together with your team and gym and do something that shows your commitment to respecting and appreciating other cheerleading teams and programs. It could be as easy as making a youTube video of your “Hello” cheer, or sending good luck cards for gyms in your area going to a major competition. Document your act of good sportsmanship and send it in. Many of the programs will be featured on USASF.net and in First Friday and the best overall will be nominated for the Leadership through Sportsmanship Award! The leading safety organizations for cheerleading, the American Association of Cheerleading Coaches and Administrator (AACCA) and the National Council for Spirit Safety and Education (NCSSE) have teamed up with and Parent Action Committee (PAC) of the US All Star Federation (USASF) to develop the Leadership through Sportsmanship award. Representing exemplary leadership in values, character and work ethic, the winner of the first AACCA/NCSSE Leadership through Sportsmanship award was the All Around Panthers all star program, from the All Around Gymnastic Academy in Mentor, Ohio, coached by Lisa Yerse. The award was presented at the USASF VIP Reception April 23, 2010, at the Walt Disney World Epcot World Showcase in Buena Vista, Florida. One tradition that the All Around Panthers have is to make and display good luck posters to every team at competitions they attend. They place an emphasis on positive attitudes at events, both for their own team and for the teams they compete against. From encouraging other teams in warm-ups to treating all teams with respect during award ceremonies, the All Around Panthers strive to act with integrity and sincerity. Head Coach Yerse says their teams are known for their wholesome attitudes and athleticism, and that the entire program is thrilled to be recognized for their sportsmanship. 'This gave our three teams an extra boost as we practiced for our final events,' said Yerse. Nominations for the Leadership through Sportsmanship Award were submitted by USASF member gyms from across the country for programs whom they felt displayed the following criteria: 'positive display of performance on the mat, positive display at awards ceremony, gracious winning and/or losing, polite to staff and other teams, prudent behavior at hotel and/or outside venue facilities, positive representation of the program through all team members, positive outward appearance, showing pride in one’s program throughout Event.
